For the past handful of months I've been secretly working away nonstop on a solo show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, opening on December 17th and up through April 15th. It is part of the MCA's Chicago Works series, focusing on new work being made by emerging and established Chicago artists.
I'm creating all new work for the show, and will have projected animation, works on paper, and a series of ceramic pieces. I've been so lucky to work with the incredible Michelle Puetz, who curated the show and has been working on it with me over the past months. So, mark your calendars for December 17th if you want to see a whole range of new work and experimentation created through much blood, sweat, and tears!
My friends made this wonderful interactive animated story called Heat Spell! It's a collaborative project, spearheaded and envisioned by the talented Jo Dery and created with her animation students, designed for the web as if by magic by Nate Beaty.
It connects the experiences of ten neighbors suffering through a Chicago heat wave, and allows you to choose the order in which you tie the stories together. The project is super charming and well worth exploring!
I'm stoked to be a part of the Ten x Ten project this year! Full scoop on the series is below:
Ten x Ten 2013 investigates the relationship between color and sound.
Through exploring the underlying concepts of synesthesia, both
academically and intuitively, artists and composers have worked together
to produce artwork that takes the form of both a fine art print and an
original score. 10 Chicago artists were paired with 10 Chicago contemporary
(classical) music composers to each produce a work. Using a joint
statement of intent as a focus, each visual artist has created one 10
inch by 10 inch scale print, published by Spudnik Press Cooperative. And
each composer wrote a piece performed and recorded by Palomar Ensemble
that is being pressed onto 12” vinyl. The final package that will be released on Saturday, November 16,
2013 will be a suite of 10 prints and a record with 10 corresponding
compositions issued on record. The entire package will be sold for $35
and includes admission to the debut concert and exhibition at Ukrainian
Institute of Modern Art. This project is presented by Access
Contemporary Music, Homeroom, and Spudnik Press.Tickets are available here, get 'em while they're hot.
My sister Claire Carré and her husband Charles Spano are fundraising to create their first feature film together! It's a sci-fi film called Embers. I am making a limited edition screenprint based on their film as one of the possible rewards for their contributors. You can read all about the film on their campaign site here. I can't wait to see this film!
